DevOps: A Short History Lesson
Birth of an Idea
Prior to 2007, methods of application development with faster turnover times were widely needed. Speed and quality had become essential for businesses to thrive in the growing technology community. Continuous integration tools began to emerge and, on the infrastructure and operations side of IT, IaaS (infrastructure as a service) and PaaS(platform as a service) started maturing as viable offerings for companies.
Patrick DeBois, a Belgian consultant, was tasks with helping the Belgian government ministry with their data center migrations. Immediately, he ran into problems with the separation of development and operations teams and concluded there was a better way to integrate the 2 sides.

DevOps for the Future
Over the past 10 years, it has been apparent that DevOps is the solution of the future. Continuous growth and integration is the goal of DevOps and as technology continues to improve, the efficiency of performance while using DevOps for a firm will continue to improve. It is a practice that allows businesses to deliver results on new applications and services quicker than the traditional timeline between development and operations and eliminates the head scratching moments many IT professionals, like Patrick DeBois, had with integration of products. The automation between development and operations increases security and will deliver a product that is thought out more comprehensively.
